I get heaps of questions about how I detox my everyday and my home, and I gotta admit, the idea that detoxing happens as a stand alone event, kinda has me worried.
I’m flummoxed when I see ads to detox in 7 days, or detox with a grapefruit juice fast, or detox with a 3 day weekend juice fast….. Are these sustainable practices?
It doesn’t seem kind to the body and soul and also packages “detoxing” as a separate capsule thing that exists for a certain amount of time, and then you go back to your daily habits, which may or may not support your overall desire to detox.
I think that detoxing is a misunderstood thing.
My belief is that the body naturally detoxes itself everyday and is 100% wired to keep its engine clean and running smoothly.
I have a 360 degree view of detoxing – a continuum that is always being replenished and revitalized.
I’m a working Mum. That means I don’t have the luxury of a weekend to stay at home, meditate and drink cold pressed juice.
For me, detoxing has to fit seamlessly into how my life unfolds and support my little family.
Here are the 8 hacks in my everyday to naturally and effortlessly detox my home and my body. I know you can easily incorporate 1 – 2 of these hacks into your life too!
1. Apple Cider Vinegar with water
Get yourself a good quality apple cider vinegar with the mother and take a tablespoon in warm water when you wake
up. This has a great alkalizing effect on the body and helps to get digestion awakened. I drink 1 litre of water in the morning before brekkie – start with a glass and see if you can increase it over a few months.
2. St Mary’s Thistle
Also called Milk Thistle, St. Mary’s Thistle is a fabulous herb to help heal the liver. You can purchase this as a tablet or as a herbal mix from your naturopath and it can easily fit into your daily routine. I take it on and off, depending on my needs.
3. Edible Beauty Herbal Tea – Green Goddess Detox
I love the Edible Beauty range of herbal teas and botanical skin care. The company is Founded by Naturopath and Nutritionist Anna Mitsios and she creates all the blends and skin care, so you know it’s a trustworthy product. I truly love their range!
The Green Goddess Detox tea has liver loving herbs like St. Marys, Schizandra, Dandelion Root, Chen Pi, Calendula and other beautiful organic herbs. It will encourage daily detoxing with every sip of delicious herbal teas. I have a pot most afternoons.
4. Imbibe Living Activated Coconut Charcoal Drink with Cayenne Pepper and Lemon
Create your own Imbibe Cocktail Hour and help your beautiful liver along at the same time. Activated Coconut Charcoal works to trap and adsorb heavy metals and toxins from the body in a safe and effective way. I love this blend! The potency of the elixir is further enhanced with the active probiotics in every bottle – truly it’s an incredibly beneficial elixir.
Here are more reasons to fall in love with charcoal.

1. Living Green Rooms
I have a plant in every room in my home, and in my office I have a literal jungle! Not only do plants refresh, revive, calm and beautify a space, they also help to purify the air and re-oxygenate a space. You can even just get cuttings, put them in a vase and they will start to grow roots and then you have real living plants in your home.
2. Air Quality
I use an Ion max air purifier in every room – it just runs all day and traps dust and other nasties that you just clean off with a micro fiber cloth each week. It can even ionize your room! Now that’s what I’m talking about!s
3. Dry Brushing
By stimulating the skin and the lymphatic system – the body’s biggest organ and also responsible for detoxification, you’ll help draw the toxins out. Choose a natural bristle body brush and make this part of your shower routine.
4. Eat Organic, Shop Local
There’s no point detoxing if you are putting chemicals straight back into your body. Support your local farmers, shop local, choose organic and shop at your farmers markets. Vote with your dollar as it does count and it does matter. I choose to only use certified organic in the Imbibe range and I’m working towards organic certification too.
I hope this gives you some tips to make detoxing part of your life’s rhythm.
