Expert Series: Signature Skin

Step into the Treatment Room of Dr. Sarah Tranter, Cosmetic Physician (MBBS MSc), as we unpack more about the skin and how to optimise collagen production for skin that’s more radiant, dewy, and firm. Dr. Tranter explains what the dermis, epidermis, and hypodermis are and how collagen production fits into the picture.

In 90 seconds or less in this video series, you will learn:

  • What makes up the skin structure, and how collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid fit into the structure of the skin
  • When collagen production starts to slow
  • How we can prevent collagen degradation
  • How to help collagen production in the skin
  • How to both protect your skin's natural collagen and how to stimulate collagen production

Today we're gonna talk about what the epidermis and dermis is and how collagen fits into that. Hi, I'm Dr. Sarah Tranter, and I'm a cosmetic physician with a clinic in Byron Bay.

00:00:08.665 --> 00:00:09.765
So the epidermis and dermis are two layers in your skin that are really important. Firstly, the epidermis is the outermost layer of skin. So when you look at your skin, you are seeing things that sit within your epidermis. The dermis is the middle layer of your skin. This is the thickest layer of your skin, and it also is where your collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid are all housed. This is a layer of living skin cells, and this is where we want to focus when we're thinking about collagen.

00:00:34.205 --> 00:00:50.325
Collagen is a protein, it's the most abundant protein in the body, is what gives skin, its firmness and its structure. So as we reach our mid twenties collagen production in the skin slows down, so our skin struggles to make and replenish the collagen that we're losing, especially as you get older and reach perimenopause.

00:00:50.325 --> 00:01:06.285
These are my top tips on how you can really maximize collagen production, and it comes down to protecting and stimulating collagen production. So firstly, you want to protect it with using sunscreen and also products like antioxidants because they're very protective from UV damage and collagen breakdown.

00:01:06.345 --> 00:01:20.605
And then secondly, you want to use products that stimulate collagen production, so things like a retinol. And also what's really important is a high quality collagen supplement. And the Imbibe Miracle Collagen is an excellent product that you can add into your daily routine, and I would highly recommend it.
