But what is the gut, really? What does a healthy gut look like? And how do I get one?!
Georgia Hartmann of Hormone Health Studio took over our IG Live last week to speak about the role of the gut in immune function and hormonal balance.
The ‘gut’ really refers to the genetic material within your digestive system. The gut microbiome is the makeup of all of the different microbes in your gut. You want your gut microbiome to be diverse.A healthy gut, aka nice and diverse, leads to:
1. Regular thyroid function
2. Healthy estrogen metabolism
3. A regulated HPA axis (healthy amounts of cortisol and calm responses to stress)
4. Reduced inflammation in the body
Georgia dives deep into all these topics in her IG Live. Watch it HERE.
One way to support the gut is with supplements. But when it comes to probiotics, Georgia reminds us that it’s never as simple as taking a probiotic and expecting that to fix all of your gut problems. For some people, probiotics have no effect, or it makes the symptoms worse.
Specific strains of lactobacillus such as Lactobacillus plantarum or Lactobacillus rhamnosus are really effective at managing IBS symptoms.
When you take a probiotic and it does nothing, it could be that you're taking the wrong strains. Georgia tells us, “research shows us that if you have IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, for example, specific strains of lactobacillus such asLactobacillus plantarum or Lactobacillus rhamnosus are really effective at managing IBS symptoms. So you may be getting the wrong strains, or you may be getting the wrong doses.I love Beauty Renewal because you get the lactobacillus species.”
Beauty Renewal has 8 billion strains of probiotic per serve. Georgia says, "Beauty Renewal is a great place to start. Many people in my clinic, we all talk about it, we would love it on IV!"
