Tell us a little bit about yourself and your business?
I have a background in medical science, dentistry, laser safety and laser in cosmetic practice. I was able to take all of that learning, experience and knowledge and apply it to my own business. The idea of SAN LUEUR came to me back in 2018 and I was able to utilise the time during the Covid 2019 pandemic lockdown to bring that idea to reality. SAN LUEUR went live with our official media launch in March 2023 where I debuted our first product, the Advanced LED Light Therapy Facial Mask which was the world’s first LED mask that delivers all three clinically-approved wavelengths at the highest optimised energy output and irradiance possible for an at-home device. Since then, we’ve had such an incredible response from the beauty industry, those in the know and from our customers both domestically and internationally. It’s been an incredible journey.
What has your journey been leading up to SAN LUEUR? What was your inspiration?
My first experience in the world of beauty and cosmetic practice came when I was much younger. I had a hereditary condition where I had superficial broken capillaries all over my face and it made my complexion look red and blotchy. It really affected my confidence and I would cover my skin with thick makeup. I was prescribed a series of vascular laser treatments by my dermatologist that completely cleared my skin. I loved that sense of liberation of being comfortable and confident in my own skin without needing to wear any makeup and this was something I’ve always wanted to recreate at home.
As an adult, going to clinics and having facial treatments followed by LED light therapy really triggered my obsession with LED. I wanted to be able to maintain my treatments at home and wanted access to LED light therapy much more regularly with the convenience of using it in the comfort of my own home and on my own schedule. SAN LUEUR came to fruition when I wasn’t able to find an at-home LED face mask that met all my evidence-based criteria, had all the correct and clinically approved parameters and that also had all the aesthetic and functional features I wanted in an LED mask. I was adamant about filling the gap with the SAN LUEUR Advanced LED Light Therapy Facial Mask, first and foremost, for my own use but I knew if I was looking for a device of this quality and standard, others would be too.
Can you explain the benefits of LED and how best to incorporate it into your routine?
There’s a reason why I’m such a big fan and deep believer in LED light therapy. It has so many incredible benefits but not all LED devices are made equal. For an LED device to be effective and promote desired outcomes, it needs to have the three most important parameters which are the irradiance, the correct wavelengths and the energy output, all at the right levels and working harmoniously.
The SAN LUEUR LED Facial Mask captures technology which was once reserved for in-office treatments. Using the gold standard and highly effective blue, red and near-infrared light, the clinically-proven wavelengths used in this mask are able to reach the skin at optimal depths to prompt visible results. It helps in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving the appearance of skin's clarity, skin tone and texture, firmness and reducing the appearance of pigmentation blemishes and acne spots.
The wavelengths determine the target for the light and the depth of penetration into the skin. When the light is delivered into our skin, it is absorbed by our cells and in turn energises our cells, offering different effects, specific to the layer they reach.
The SAN LUEUR LED Facial Mask uses:
Blue LED light (415nm) which targets the epidermis layer of your skin, where oil is produced and blemishes or acne may form. This LED light wavelength is associated with reducing the appearance of blemishes or acne spots, prompting a clearer-looking complexion.
Red LED light (633nm) targets the dermis layer of your skin and is primarily used for revitalising the appearance of your skin. This LED light wavelength is associated with improving blood circulation, minimising the look of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles, redness and pigmentation while encouraging plumpness, smoothness, and radiance, for a more glowing complexion.
Near-infrared light (830nm) targets the dermis and subcutaneous layers of your skin, which is comprised of fat cells and connective tissue - it tends to lose its density over the years. This LED light wavelength is associated with revitalising the look of your skin’s overall tone and texture, by stimulating synthesis of collagen and elastin, smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation, for more youthful-looking skin.
The blue light is best used during the day on cleansed, dry skin for 10 minutes, followed by the dual red+near infrared lights for 10 minutes.
The dual red+near infrared lights can be used any time of the day on cleansed, dry skin. I personally love using it at night to help me unwind and relax and to The SAN LUEUR LED mask is powerful enough that you only need to use it for 10 minutes but we’re all a bit obsessed and the red+near infrared lights are so safe and effective to use so you can choose between a 10-30 minute treatment time on your customisable controller. Follow your LED light therapy with your serums and a moisturiser.
What are your top three beauty and skincare secrets?
Nourishing and hydrating my skin from the inside-out with cold-pressed celery juice and the IMBIBE Miracle Collagen powder and Beauty Renewal.
Consistent use of the SAN LUEUR LED Advanced LED Light Therapy Facial Mask.
Sunscreen every day, even when I have a short commute or am going to be indoors for most of the day.
What does your current morning and evening routine look like?
I’m an early riser. By 5am I’ll either be in the gym doing weight resistance training or doing Reformer Pilates. After my workout, I drink 16oz of freshly cold-pressed celery juice on an empty stomach followed by having a protein-rich breakfast and taking my supplements. My morning skincare routine is simple and consists of a gentle cleanse followed by a vitamin c serum, a hydrating serum, moisturiser and sunscreen.
I like to think of my evening routine more as a ritual than a routine. I’m the type of person that can keep working so I’ve put a hard stop at 9pm so I can unwind and focus on self-care. I use a dry body brush, bath, double cleanse my face and then use my LED mask on the red + near infrared setting for 20 minutes while journaling or reading, followed by my skincare. I use a tretinoin every second night. On alternate nights, I apply an antioxidant serum, a moisturiser, followed by a barrier balm and ensure I sleep on a silk pillowcase as it won’t absorb all that lovely skincare I’ve just applied.
What does your ultimate self-care day look like?
I lead a fast-paced and busy life, juggling the commitments of entrepreneurship, and the many hats that entail, with life and family. My ultimate self-care day involves taking time to slow things right down where I decompress, nourish, and energise my mind, body, and spirit. I’ll get my morning workout in, spend time outside in the sunshine, going for a coastal walk or swim, and treat myself to a facial + massage at a beautifully-appointed skin clinic then use my SAN LUEUR Advanced LED Light Facial Mask for 20 min while meditating or journaling. The red and the near-infrared lights are so calming and rejuvenating and the journaling allows me time for reflection and gratitude.
