What Does ORAC Actually Mean?

You may have noticed that at IMBIBE, we are totally fanatical about taking care of our gut health, our skin health and for really providing our bodies with the nutrients it needs to live (what we consider to be) its best life.

To us, this means living well, eating well, sleeping well, and really protecting our bodies from any unnecessarily difficult aging - a constantly evolving mission.

With that evolution, we have launched the newest member of our Ingestible Beauty Range PROTECT, which is full of Adaptogens, Amino Acids, Vitamins, Minerals and antioxidants!

In fact, Protect is FULL of antioxidants and for good reason.

“Potent, pure and powerful”

Potent, pure and powerful, The Institute of Medicine defines a dietary antioxidant as “a substance in foods that significantly decreases the adverse effects of reactive species (oxygen and nitrogen species) on normal physiological function in humans.”

To break that down, science shows that by eating foods rich in dietary antioxidants, we actually increase our body's natural defenses against Oxidative Stress and Free Radical Damage (the pesky catalyst to aging cells and aging skin).

When we consider foods high in Antioxidants, it’s easy to come across a widely accepted measurement of this power called O.R.A.C or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. This is a test tube process that attempts to quantify the total antioxidant capacity in a particular food or chemical substance, measuring it’s synergistic activity in total, putting a hard number beside that substance's ability to protect against oxidative stress and free-radical damage.

“High levels of free radicals in the body are associated with a number of illnesses and diseases including heart disease, diabetes and cancer. ”

Free-radicals are cells that are produced when our bodies break down foods, are exposed to certain pollutants and to radiation frequencies. High levels of free radicals in the body are associated with a number of illnesses and diseases including heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Although our bodies have built-in systems to control this damage, we basically need all the help we can get - which is why we need to eat a diet rich in natural oxidants, like fruits and berries. We prefer to get ours from a wholefood diet, which includes our delicious Beauty Renewal and powerful Protect as a gateway to added protection and benefits.

While there is no firm recommendation for daily antioxidant intake, various researchers recommend between 3,000 and 5,000 ORAC units per day.

“ You are getting a total of 1000 units, packing some serious health benefits into one small serving ”

In one 10g serving of Protect, you are getting a total of 1000 ORAC units, packing some serious health benefits into one delicious glass, which is why we can’t get enough!

Getting enough antioxidants day-to-day is known to create a multitude of health benefits including:

  • Helping to prevent heart disease
  • Fighting against cellular damage
  • Protecting from harmful UV and environmental damages
  • Protect your skin from aging
  • Maintaining healthy cellular functions

All in all, we are here to live life to its fullest in the healthiest, happiest, most balanced body we can achieve. Giving our body the most complex nutrients, in the most simple and delicious way we can manage, is the type of fanatical we are here for and the type of health that we live for!
